As a follow-up to my 11/5 comment, all I have to do is under "tools" click off the jump stitch cutter. This is a new feature and although is sounds marvelous, those top threads when cut have to go somewhere so they get stitched on the back and it makes for a very messy back. The longer the jump stitches, the messier it becomes. I've decided that I'll turn on the jump stitch cutter when I am working on projects where the back won't be seen because it is such a time saver. Then on items like napkins, towels, etc., I'll turn the cutter off. Once I turn it off, I get a beautiful back. This is such a new feature that I imagine Viking will issue improvements to eliminate the messy back. In any event, now that I know what to do I can have the best of both worlds. Thought you would all like to know of this issue.

I have had my SE for over 1 year now and abosolutely love it. Hardly a day goes by that I don't put it to work and it never disappoints me. Sewing on it is such fun as well. It's full of excellent features which make life a lot easier. Great machine.

My husband bought this machine for an early Christmas gift. I have the 3D Studio software for it. There is so much to learn, but I am having lots o fun just messing around with the software. I think that I will love this machine as soon as I get past the intimidation of so much machine and awsome software.

I, too, have just recently purchased this machine and the 3D Studio software. Looks like it's going to be a fun winter (if like others, I can get beyond the intimidation factor). I think once the holidays are over and I can really concentrate on the learning process, it will be a dream come true!

I just bought this about 3 weeks ago and I like it but it is quite different and i have a lot to learn I also have the 3D studio soft ware. This makes my third embroidery machine. I have my old work horse a Brother PC8500 and a Babylock EMP6 which i still am learning to use- just for my own enjoyment.

I have had my D1 for a year. It's ok liked my Bernina better but just got the 3D software for Christmas hoping that will make a big difference

I had the designer I. and then I got the designer SE. Both are fantastic.

This is my second Husky. The first was the Designer I, which I still have. Love my machine and am so spoiled. Love the self-confidence it gives you when you get it. I also purchased the professional 3D studio and have the autoditizer which is a few years old now. Love Love Love my machine.

Two years ago a bought a new SE. This machine give me nothing but troubles. the threadtension was not oke with sewing and specially with embroidery .the machine could not make a decent runningstitch. It took Husqvarna viking 1,5 years to admit that my machine wasn't oke and gave my a new one. this new machine works decently well but I still not very satisfied with the running stitch with embroidery it give little loops. with the new update it is a little better but am still not satisfied . Now a want to get ride of it and will buy a new Bernina or a Brother.

by alivandenberge 07 Mar 2008 I have had this machine for a year, after I had this fabilous D1 wich I had for more than 6 years. Wish I kept it. The SE did it very poor comparing the D1 so after a year I realy had anough of it and bought myself a Bernina 730. Love this machine very much. This machine makes fabilous lace, like a pro. The software is very expensive but much more pro as the Husqvarna software wich I use also.

Just received this machine as a gift one month ago and I too experience the little loops. Thought it was just me. Otherwise an awesome machine--nothing it can't do!

I own a Designer 1 and an SE as I need a back up. I have experienced some problems but then I do use them a lot. Several hours every day if not more. However I am very pleased with the machine. Just wish it had a greater width as some of the other machines on the market. anybody used a Hoop it all on a Husqvarna. Would love to hear comments

I go back to Viking since '77. Have bought other machines, but never liked them as much as my Viking. Have a Brother 8500D -- nice to sew with, but embroidery is AWFUL - bought my SE in April along w/4D software -- it is FABULOUS -- continuing to learn and experiment -- will probably sell my Brother (I've used it about 10 hours). Viking Husqvarna is THE ONLY WAY TO GO FOR ME!!!

lricharson, I have a D1 and an SE. I had the 3D Pro and now have 4D Pro. If you like the 3D and don't feel the need to update, don't do it. You did not mention if you have 3D Pro or not. If you just have 3D Studio, you would be gaining a lot with 4D Extra. There are over 100 fonts, and you can view them through a camera. Also there is a hoop option in Encore. Also when you center a design in the hoop, the design and its center are centered. You can do multiple lines of text. The Express Design Creator is neat. You can quickly and easily create stitch files from clip art or items you scan in. You just have to make sure the image is clean (no shading or variance withing any color). If you have 3D Pro, there are lots of changes. 4D Extra is the core program. Everything is just easier and more user friendly in 4D.

by clawton 18 Jan 2008 The camera feature is great and was worth getting the 4D Extra software! I too love my SE.

I have the designer I now for about 5 years with it being worked on many times by the company I bought it from and it still is not right. Don't use it much. clamity01@aol.com

I have had my SE for 18 months now. Looping is just one of those things that makes you learn more about different thread types, different stabilizers for different materials, etc. It is all a learning curve, but one with outstanding results. I hardly own a garment without an embroidery design. I love it and can't imagine a better machine.

I have the 3D system. Anyone want to tell me why I need to upgrade to the 4D system? Can anyone tell me more about the digitizer module?

I had the 3D system for 2years before anyone at Husqvarna could get it to work, even now the only way I could get it to work was because my son-in-law showed me how. I can never just put in the readerwriter.I must first unstall the program and the reinstall in every time I try to use it. I do not find that this is a very good system.

I had the Designer 1 and was never satisfied with it so when the SE came out I traded mine in. 3 machines later I finally have one that works pretty well. I had the brother 8500 before and thouhgt that was a great machine for embroidery but I never sewed on it. My daughter got it for High School Graduation and loves it for sewing and never embroiders on it. I have never gotten the hang of the brother softwear, but have found the viking 3 d to work wonderfully. I also have a ULT 2002 and while I like the quality of it, it is not as user friendily as the Viking and I hate having to download everything to a card before I go embroider with it. I just ordered the new upgrade for my viking but no one seems to know when it will get here. Will let you know how that goes as soon as I get it and play with it. Take care everyone! Richelle

I just purchased a Viking Designer SE and had the upgrades. It required a technician install a bobbin case with cutters. The front of my work is lovely, but the back has quite a few loops of thread and would be unacceptable if stitching a table cloth, napkins, or other projects where the back could be seen. Anyone else had this problem? Could you please elaborate. Thanks/S

I hope that you sort everything out. All Husqvarna owners are struggling a little with upgrades for the Designer SE and 4d software. I am going to let my dealer upgrade my SE. It will be good not to have to cut jumpstitches and also go to a particular stitch on the design being stitched out.

I just bought the SE Limited Edition and 4D Professional software last week. Haven't even tried them yet. Will keep my D1 and 3D software on my laptop, separate from the 4D. Anxious to start on the new stuff.

I've been with Husqvarna Viking for years. My first was the Rose which was nice, but I longed for more. I had that a few years & truely enjoyed it as it was my 1st emb. machine. When the Designer 1 came out I purchased it, but when the SE came out I stalled because I liked the Designer 1 so much. Talking with others when they purchased their machines made me very envious but I wasn't about to pay that much when I had such a versatile machine. Almost a year ago I weakened and decided I had to have it. I have never been sorry. It is so very nice. It does so much and I still have much to learn. I have the 3D software but I'm going to purchase the 4D. Just can't decide if I want the professional or not since I know nothing about it. Can anybody give me some advice? I would relly like to hear your imput. Thsnks.

by homeagain66 19 Jan 2008 I have the professional 4D & love it. My instructors have shown me the differences in the two and I would make the same choice again. Still learning, have had my SE for a year and love it.

I bought a Husqvarna Viking SE when they first came out. Sewing machines are like anything else. If you are used to one model there is an adjustment period for the new one. I had the Rose before & still have it as a backup. I just purchased the 4D software upgrade & am taking classes from the dealer. There is so much to learn. I found that it is not only the machine, but finding the right dealer. This for me is a little quilt shop with terrific people & great repair person, who happens to own the store with his wife.

I bought my Hus Designer Se Special edition a month ago and I love it so much than Designer 1. I have 3D embroidery and I bought Bernina V5 a few monts ago and I prefer Bernina than Hus. It is more easier to work with this software than Hus.

Make sure that you get the new update on this machine folks. It appears to be pretty amazing. I need my dealer to do mine and you will find the same to get maximum benefit.

I agree with sandavis28. We have the same machines and software. Wonderful and so eay to use.

My SE is just under a year old. It has really been a workhorse. I have 4D studio extra and love it. This model has a UBS cable that connects directly to the computer and it is a GREAT feature. The machine is easy to use.

I also own the Designer SE and a Designer 1. I love my machines but as for the software 3 D studio and more I DO NOT recommend there software as there is no support from Viking (OH unless you pay money for S.O.S) They only want an arm and leg to keep upgrading and are unwilling to make 3D work with Vista windows. They have standard answers out of a textbook for any problems I have ever had to call about. They have really never helped me with any problem I have always had to resort to Forums for answers. Viking gets your money and then you are on your own unless your local dealer has a very good employee who knows something. I now use a software called Embird and I love it. It is VERY VERY reasonably priced and does everything and more that Vikings does. Very good support also. I am loving it and have spent next to no money compared to Viking.

I have sewn on a Viking since 1967. In 2003, I decided to splurge on my 50th birthday and bought a used Designer 1. I never had a minute of trouble with that machine. In October 2007, I was invited to demo the new Designer SE Limited Edition at a small local quilt shop. A few weeks later and several thousand dollars later ($8500 to be exact) I had purchased the new Designer SE LE w/ 4D Professional software. The dealer offered several classes for the sewing and embroidery features, all of which were cancelled due to low class enrollment. That, of course, left me stranded to learn the machine myself. Then, in less than 30 days, I started experiencing problems with the machine... and now, 9 months later, I am still having problems with the machine and am getting no satisfaction from the dealer or Husqvarna. I wrote Husqvarna with early concerns about the machine, and they directed me to take my issues and concerns to the dealer, who, of course, totally blew me off. I still have my Designer 1 and have (more than once over the past 9 months) regretted spending the money on this lemon of a machine. The problems have been: the screen not coming on, blurred lines in the screen, a clacking sound in the bobbin casing, thread catching, clogging of thread in the bobbin casing, thread cutter not working.

I have a SE as well as the new Diamond. Still out on the Diamond. I, too, discovered it's better to turn off jump stitch cutter if the back shows. If not, it's great. But I have also sewn on a Brother that cuts jump stitches a few years ago, and they too have a messy back. I don't see how that can be avoided as those threads DO have to be somewhere! I did have a problem with my SE screen going blank. After talking to several Viking dealers, mine put in a new "mother board" which helps. But it still goes blank sometimes. One dealer suggested placing those little rubber door stops under the back of the machine to let air circulate. Friend did that & hasn't had it happen since. Another said to get one of those static pads repairmen put under computers. That's a pain as you have to hook it up to your arm! Another said there were power surges or too many things on the same circuit breaker. That's just not true. There was nothing else out there! So I usually jot down the exact numbers if I move the embroidery file at all so I can go back & put it right where I was when it went off. But it sure does sew good!
