Hi, I bought mine Oct 1999, have it serviced once a year, never had any problems. Software: I upgraded from System5Pro through VIPpro to 3D Pro. Can anyone tell me whether it is worth updating (again!) to 4D. Cost an arm and a leg each time.

by dstipdonk 28 May 2008 I really like the 4D, and find it much easier to do. Hard to say if it is worth the update cost, but I am very happy to have it.

I love this machine.

verry good.I have a software embroderi plus version 5

7 year designer1

I've had my D1 for about 3-4 years now and just upgraded to USB. Have been very happy with the D1 - and it gets lots of use, both embroidery and regular sewing - probably on the average of 20 hours a week.

have had machine since 2000 have had nothing but problems with support and mantanence never fixing what I paid to get fix have all the upgrades no hoop wide enough for what I like think it has much to be desired

I love my d-1's I have 2 wouldn't trade them for anything else I also have the pro software and it is very user friendly

I Not only own a designer 1 but now I work for Viking. I would never never trade my D1. I am really looking at getting another one.

by sidedoor 05 Mar 2009 I have two D1's and am trying to sell one so that I can buy the Diamond. How do I find the true number of hours for this machine? I used to push the reverse, and up/down needle button at the same time I power up. After my last upgrade, it no longer works. Anyone able to help? P.S. These are the best machines. I just hope the Diamond is all they say it is.

Ihad this since june of 2006 and I wouldnt give it up for anything, along with embroidery professional.

roberta 1/20/07 have had my designer 1 for about 4 years now and love it! have had no problem. only in the shop once to be serviced for regular overdue cleaning. wouldn't trade it.

I have a designer 1 its also excellent for quilting as there is more space under the machine.

I have had a D1 now for 4 years have wonderful backup from the dealer and have had great fun sewing and embroidery on the machine it gives and gives. I have just upgraded to a USB and it has never missed a beat in all the hours of use it gets.

I have had my Designer 1 for a year now. It has been the best machine I have owned. I love it! Hopefully I will get many years of sewing out of it?

I have 2 of these machines and I love them.

LOVE MY DESIGNER 1. I HAVE BEEN SEWING FOR 40 YRS, ALWAYS HAD CHEAPPY MACHINES. WOW THIS IS SEWING. I THINK YOUR DEALER MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE. I WENT LOCAL, SMALL TOWN.

by zola 15 Aug 2009 I couldn't agree with you more. I live in a large town, but went to a small town to buy my Designer 1, even though there is a Viking dealer in this town. You might also want to look at joining this group- http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vikingd1/

I love my D1...Just got it Christmas 2006..Didn't know what I was missing in a machine until I got this one and fell in love with it....

I have had my Designer 1 for 8 years. I love it! I belong to a machine embroidery club at my local fabric store. All of us who have D1 never have any trouble. Can't say that for the other machines in the class. I keep my machine updated and have 3D. Best present I have ever purchased for myself! janete

i just upgraded to a D1 USB i really like it. takes a bit for me to get used to .. i got lazt with the D2

I have had this machine for nearly 5 years now. It is my standby machine now I have Designer SE, however I always find it very strange using Floppy disks when I do embroidery on it. However I am not prepared to have the expensive USB port put in at the moment, so for now I have a trip down memory lane when I use it seeing how far the machines have gone in 5 years and wonder where they will be at in another five! However I cannot agree with Janete that it is problem free as I have had a run of problems but so I am blessed with a wonderful dealer-Husqvarna Studio in Nottingham, England!

by littleei 3 days agoI bought my D1, as a second hand reconditioned machine, from Nottingham (England) and have been using it for 18 months. No problems! It's super. I love it and what I can do with it. The 4D package works really well, and I look forward to buying some of your designs soon, (Graceful, Hazel)

Hi I'm new to this group. I bought my Embroidery Machine, the Designer 1 USB, I'm still learning, but it's a little confusing when you don't know much computer. I hope you can help me or tell me whre to do on the internet and learn the zip files. By the way, what is our format?

Hi, I am new to this group too. I've bought my Designer-1 5 years ago. And I love. I am Dutch, I love to sew, embroider and to quilt. Also my granddaughter, she is 10 years old, love to use my machine.

Your format is VIP or VP3 if you have the newest software 4D. HOpe you find your machine great fun. There is a special Yahoo group for people with Designer 1. Certainly worth joining as there are some very knowledgable members

I never ever had a better machine as this one.Had it for more than 6 years. Great to work with and it made beautiful embroidery and lace. I wish I kept it....

After reading reviews on the Viking machines, both DI & SE, I think someone needs to send them to Viking about their lousy support system! If I didn't have a good dealer, I doubt I would have bought the new machines.

by juanitadenney 01 Jan 2009 Yes I agree with you 100%. I have both D1 & SE and I think Viking support system sucks but I love my machines when they are running well. I also wouldn't have bought the new machines if I hadn't had a good dealer.

I got my designer I USB for my 25th wedding anniversary and I just love this machine. Actually I was given the 955D and then upgraded within 2 months to the designer I and have never looked back. The only problems I've encountered are me and not the machine. We work long and hard together and never a wimper.

I just got my Designer I for Chritmas so I am new at this. I got it cause all I heard was good review and I have there surger so I figured I have the pair.

I have had my Designer1 for 3 years. Lots of problems with support and repairs. Last November( just as I was trying to finish gifts) my machine just quit. It was in the shop for 4 weeks. So much for a merry xmas. Then since we bought my machine in Colorado and now live in Arkansas they didn't want to honor my warrent. If I ever get to buy another machine it won't be a Husqvarna Viking. But when all is said and done I'm glad so many of you have had good luck with the Designer1.

by zola 15 Aug 2009 I would contact the Viking head office, if I were you. Your new Viking dealer should honor the warranty. It's VIKING that repays the dealer, so the dealer is not out anything, even if he did not sell the machine to you. Also, there is a Designer 1 group that might help you -- http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vikingd1/

I have 2 D1 machines. I have made 6 embroidery queen size quilts and who knows what else. They are the best machines I have ever had. I used to only buy Singer but I switched back in 1999. I can't say enough about them. They tailor clothing beautifully, quilt, embroidery and I still learn something new every time I use them. Sometimes I have one doing an embroidery and I am sewing with the other. They are great!!!

My D1 has been relatively issue-free. When there are issues, it is usually easily resolved by cleaning out the bobbin assembly thoroughly and/or rethreading to make sure the tension disks are working as they should. These machines seem to be very lint-sensitive and will foul up the sewing if there is garbage in the bobbin assembly. My D1 has re-upholstered my furniture, made draperies and blinds for my whole house, clothing for my kids and tons of crafts, gifts etc. I enjoy creating new designs with the 4D professional software which have made beautiful and unique gifts for friends and family. It has been serviced (overdue but couldnt spare the machine) and continues to run great. I have noticed that when it is working for a while, a noise gets louder from the gears behind the bobbin winder and while sewing or embroidering the RRRRRR sound persists. Let the machine cool down and the noise goes..... After sewing for 30+ years on my mothers old Singer 301A (which still runs perfectly and my kids sew on it) the D1 was like an ice-cream sundae treat after only ever having had popsicles. Dealer support means everything to an owner of a complex machine like this and I am thrilled with my dealers (Delaware) who have talked me through many a panic and even lent me an SE loaner when I had my D1 serviced in the middle of a project (happy to say I prefer the D1). I recommend taking classes through your dealer, you build a great relationship with the educators that way too; my educators also work in the store and have guided me away from purchases that I fancied and recommended alternatives, usually cheaper ones, but also more suitable for my needs.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vikingd1/ This is a Designer 1 Yahoo group that is great, if you want help with your D1.

After a few teething problems when I first got this machine it is now sewing like a dream! Have had excellent support in getting those earlier issues fixed. Love this machine. Currently sewing about 30 to 40 hours a week.

I am very happy with my Designer I, it has never given me a problem. I have had it for almost 2 years now and I sew something almost everyday, whether it is embroidery, quilting or making clothing for myself or my grandchildren. I updated my 3D software for 4D Pro and am so glad that I did. There is so much more you can do with 4D than you could with the 3D. I learn something new every day!!
